Sunday, January 29th, 2012 in Karura Forest/Nairobi
Start and Finish: Recreation Centre (Limuru Road Entrance)
Time: 9am – 1pm (sponsored walk) – thereafter entertainment
The Dog Day Karura Forest aims to raise funds for the Kenya Society for the Protection and Care of Animals (KSPCA), and at the same time create awareness for the beauty of the Karura Forest and its excellent opportunities to combine recreation with nature conservation.
The key activity of the Dog Day Karura Forest is a sponsored dog walk where participants “earn” money for the KSPCA through walking their dogs on one of several pre-defined parcours through the Karura Forest, and securing sponsorship for their walk from friends and relatives.

Those (kids or adults) who manage to collect the highest sponsorship contributions have a chance to win an IPAD2 or IPOD 64 GB!
Besides the walk there will be a variety of recreational opportunities and entertainment and information activities. Along the parcours will be “pit stops” for canines and humans. Food and drinks will be offered for sale at the Recreation Centrearea. There will be an art workshop for children, a raffle with attractive (sponsored) prices, a “market place” for arts and crafts and goods and services relating to animal protection and environment/nature conservation, live music and more entertainment opportunities.
All proceeds of the Dog Day Karura Forest will be used to support the animal protection work of the KSPCA. The KSPCA is the only charitable animal welfare organization in Kenya targeting domestic animals involved in rescue operations, homing and treating of animals, control and sterilization as well as educational programmes with the aim to create a better understanding of the mutual benefits of good management and care of animals.
The Karura Forest, where the walk takes place, is a nature conversation zone of about 1,000 ha in the Northern part of Nairobi. Previously known mainly in the context of crime and land grabbing, the forest has recently been re-established as a leafy green respite inviting Nairobi residents and visitors to experience the beauty and diversity of its nature.
The Dog Day Karura Forest is organised on behalf and upon authorization of KSPCA by a group of friends of the KSPCA.
