A dog named Safari

Dogs are part of our lives, but unfortunately many people do not give the mixed breed dogs the respect that they deserve. We at KSPCA deal with them all the time and we appreciate their worth. They are hardier than many pedigree dogs, loyal, adaptable and the majority in the right home are good guard dogs. In other words, they are an asset to any family if treated well. Take for instance Safari.

Of course they were causing havoc in the kiosks around, as the old lady could not afford to feed them. So their execution was ordered by the authorities. The local government vet asked if we could help and take them away as he did not want to poison them. So we obliged with the help of the City Council askaris. It was quite a performance. The dogs were brought to KSPCA and went through the usual vaccinations, deworming and spaying. Slowly they went to new homes apart from Safari who was the oldest one and also very calm. One day a lady came in to see if we had any dogs suitable for an elderly frail lady who had just lost her old dog and was very unhappy. Safari was the perfect choice. She and the lady took to each other at once and Safari stayed by her side constantly until sadly the old lady died. She then came back to KSPCA and she will now see her days out as one of our office dogs. She was sad to begin with but is now very much at home and enjoys the fuss she gets from visitors. She gave the old lady the companionship she needed for her last years, so we will do the same for her.
